Introduction to Music Technology.

Using a Digital Audio Workstation – Pupils explore and experience using a DAW and its components. They experience how to record and arrange music using Music Software such as GarageBand. They use loops to create their own music and record, rehearse and perform existing music of their own choice.

Using a Digital Audio Workstation – Pupils study a specific genre of Music and how technology has influenced this style. They record pieces of music in this style using a DAW.

Pupils learn about effects and plug-ins and how to use these when operating a DAW.

Spring Half Term 1 Spring Half Term 2
Creating Music – pupils will investigate the elements and characteristics of another style of music. They will then compose and record their own loops to arrange into a song of this style. In addition to this pupils will undertake a review of their final piece. The Recording Studio – pupils will learn about the different pieces of equipment used in a recording studio. They will study in depth the different types of microphones and how best to place these when recording different instruments.
Summer Half Term 1 Summer Half Term 2
Multi-track Recordings – pupils will have to record a local artist in the school’s recording studio. They will act as the studio engineer; scheduling the recording session, working within health and safety legislation and setting up all the equipment needed for the session. Mastering Techniques – pupils will learn how to add and use mastering techniques in the recording studio to turn their recorded material into a quality and industry level recording in an appropriate format ready for public distribution and/or sale.
